Gloucester Logistics Careers

A jobs and skills fair aimed at getting Gloucester residents into the world of logistics will take place on the 8th November.

Hosted by St. Modwen Logistics, a leading logistics developer and manager, the fair will showcase the wide variety of roles available in a sector which currently employs 3.8m people across the UK and is one of the fastest growing employment sectors in the country.

The fair is hosted in conjunction with Generation Logistics, a pioneering industry-led and Government-backed campaign which aims to bring the sector together to help change perceptions and increase the number of people applying for roles in logistics and transport going forwards.

As well as traditional warehousing roles, a career in logistics can be across a multitude of different disciplines including warehouse operations, drivers, transport operations, sustainability, IT and automation, finance, and sales and marketing.

The event is open to the general public and is suitable for anybody searching for a role whether they are school-leavers looking for their first steps into work, a graduate looking to utilise their qualifications, people looking to get back into work after an absence, those seeking a complete career change or students looking for part-time roles to supplement their studies.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet some of the biggest employers and companies in the local region, understand the variety of roles currently available, get information on training opportunities and get advice on how their skills can help an industry which kept the country moving throughout the recent pandemic.

Those interested in attending are encouraged to fill out this form, but can also turn up on the day. Local schools, colleges and other big groups are very welcome to attend and parking can be arranged.

“We are really excited to be able to showcase the wide variety of jobs and careers that logistics can offer practically everybody. There is a perception around the type of work available within warehouses and we want to demonstrate that this is simply not true. Some of our customers are using autonomous operations which require IT set-up and management, others are looking for sustainability experts to help them meet targets and many of our buildings now come with dedicated office space which brings together business function roles and warehouse operations under one building.

In addition, recent research also shows that a job in logistics can pay up to £5,000 a year more than the national average[1] so there is certainly a plethora of roles across the board which are needed. The South West is one of the fastest-growing economic regions in the country and we know that there is demand in the area for customers who want to house their operations here. That makes it the perfect place to try and attract more talent to the industry and help create a high-skill, high-wage economy in Gloucester and beyond.”
